We will be bringing you 17 hours of music from multiple talented performers. Our day party in the park will kick off in Oakland at Noon till Six PM. At night, the party will begin at Six PM in Alameda in an intimate warehouse. I can't tell you how jazzed I am about this!

-Take the 24E toward walnut creek/concord
-exit 13 Hayward
-exit at Joaquin Miller/lincoln - careful the exit is easily missed
-follow the signs for chabot space center at the exit.
-drive up the hill and turn left on to sanborn drive to enter the park
-please park along joaquin miller or at the second parking lot on the
left on sanborn
-please do not park in the community center/ranger station parking lot.

-Take 80 East over the Bay Bridge
-Take the 880 S Exit toward San Jose/Airport/Alameda
-Take the exit toward Broadway/Alameda
-Turn right at 5th Street

-Merge to the leftish/rightish (confusing, I know) for the CA-260 S/
-Webster St Tube
-Continue to follow CA-260S
-Turn left at Santa Clara Ave
-Park outside of Lucky JuJu Pinball, the party will be through their
door and upstairs at Bliss Factory Studios.

From Joaquin Miller Rd, turn right onto CA-13N toward Berkeley
Take the exit on the left onto CA-24 W toward Oakland
Continue on I-980W
Take the 12th St. exit
Slight left at Brush St.
Turn left at 5th St.

Slight right at CA-260 S/Webster St Tube

Putting Phoenix on the Breakbeat Map!

Hi wonderful music lovers! I'm Ben, and I love breaks.

We just started a new weekly breaks night in the Phoenix, AZ area. This Tuesday (02/27) will be our second night. We tripled the bar's income on our first night 2 weeks ago, and we plan on keeping that happening.

If any of you kind folks are in the Phoenix Metro area (Tempe, near ASU) on a Tuesday, please drop in and say hello. If you want to spin some breaks, let me know and we'll sort out the details. Right now we aren't getting paid (other than in what we can drink), but when we prove ourselves (and the bar starts making decent money) we'll have some cash to play with.

So yeah, if you or your friends are coming through Phoenix on a Tuesday, shoot me a line!

Techno is in our blood and we need help to find where the scene is hiding at. I use to live here years ago and that was when the cyber zone and other crazy clubs still existed. Please help find the scene here in Orlando. I am desperate!

Which are your favorites, and why?

A few o' mine:

Wishdokta: The Mental Eclipse EP: White Label: 1991 (?)

What IS it with the Wishdokta? This psychotic producer made not only sick, addictive beats, but layered them with endless samples from old horror flicks, keyboards from the Excorcist, and Jackson Five accapellas. Five untitled tracks here, every one is golden.

High Lonesome Sound System: Waiting for Champion Sound: Exist Dance: 1992

Classic, dark, jump-uppy techno. An underlying Middle Eastern woodwind or horn sound, amplified. "Now 'Ere Diss!" Nice layering of keyboards keeps the track interesting, drawing you right through it. This one consistently makes people pump their fists while huddled near the decks and drooling.

DJ Phantasy and Carl Cox: Jepron: White Label: 1992(?)

That elusive but prolific group of vocal session magicians, "The Old Skewl Techno Elves", do a command performance on this track. Who are these guys and where did they go? It's got a simple, bouncy break, and piercing keyboard stabs at just the right moments. Buttah.

New School Techno Breaks

Over the past coupla years, I've noticed a lot of breaks artists going directly for that old school techno sound. In some cases, it comes out cheesily, at least to me. But in others, it's not only a great track, but actually harkens me back to those days of yore, when raves cost 5 bucks, the cops were clueless, and the pills were really MDMA...

Here are a few of my favorites:

The Breakfastaz: Kick It: Mob Records: 2004

From the very first drum kick, you are ripped away from whatever you're thinking about, and taken on a wild ride, your body contorting to the snappy drum kicks and intelligent sampling thrown at your cerebral cortex. This track is so well put together, it's hard to find anything to take the energy higher in your crate. The keyboard buildup at the end of the second break in the track is a superb nod to the techno producers of old. Classic.

Distortionz: Hitman: Hardcore Beats: 2004

This track starts off as a lighthearted, wistful tune, with a vocal loop in the backround of soft keyboards, but early on switches to almost purely 303 acid track, and then combines both melodies. This one also reminds of olden times.

The Loose Cannons: Got It All (Wrong): Fat Fox Records: 2004

This track is a withering vocal seemingly pasted right over an old school techno track with stunning effect. That 808 in a minor key brings back memories of Altern8.
